Welcome Lughnasa is one of the four Celtic Fire Festivals which are celebrated at points midway between the solstices and equinoxes. Samhain, on November 1st, begins the Celtic new year. This is followed by Imbolc (February 1st), Bealtaine (May 1st), and Lughnasa (August 1st). The name is derived from the Celtic deity Lugh, god of all arts and crafts.
About the Festival
We are delighted to announce that the Rathangan Lughnasa Festival 2006 will be here shortly. This year the festival will run from Thursday 3rd August – Monday 7th August. The committee have been working very hard over the past couple of months and will continue to work just as hard over the next coming months to ensure that we have another hugely successful festival. Over the past few weeks, we have organised some fundraisers including table quizzes, race night, battle of the bands and a car boot sale. We would be grateful if you could continue to support the upcoming fundraisers, which will be advertised locally.
We are delighted to announce that the Rathangan & District Credit Union have decided to become our main sponsor of the festival again this year. The credit union have supported the festival since it first began in 2004. As you all know, the credit union has provided a service to all people, young and old in our community for many years and we the festival committee, are hoping to follow in their foot steps by holding a festival that will be suitable and enjoyable for all ages in our community. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Rathangan & District Credit Union on behalf of the festival committee and myself for their continued support.
I would also like to mention the Rathangan Core Group, who have been affiliated with the festival and have shown us great support and encouragement over the past couple of years and we are delighted that they are continuing to support us again this year.
Again this year, we will be composing a programme of events booklet, which will include advertisements from our local businesses, who have also been very supportive of the festival in the past. We would like to thank all the local businesses who have supported us again this year by sponsoring events and placing advertisements in our booklet. We have composed a provisional programme of events for your attention and we hope that you will join us again this year for another enjoyable festival and we hope you all have a ‘Lovely Lughnasa!’.
Thanking you,
Kelly Anne Brouder, Secretary.
